The ropes course requires clients to learn to work as a team to find solutions. This process of teamwork and problem solving imitates real-life relationships, and allows clients to practice their skills within the context of a nonjudgmental, supportive environment.
While on the course, clients will face challenges and roadblocks, similar to those found on the natural course of life in recovery. Through completing tasks as a team, clients are able to make connections between the challenges encountered on the course and the challenges that are present within their recovery. This excursion serves as a both a team-building exercise and a motivator for personal growth, and offers each client the opportunity to triumph over their fears. As they gain confidence and recognize their successes throughout the day, they also gain tools to tackle difficult situations in the future.
