There are several different types of addiction treatment available for people who are ready to seek help for their addictions. The types of treatment one needs can and do vary based on the type of substance, level of addiction, and other such contributing factors.
The first treatment step in the process is detox. Detoxification from drugs and/or alcohol is necessary to remove the substances from the body. During detox, withdrawal is a major concern for people highly addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.
This is why it is highly recommended to undergo detox in a supervised medical detox center, where healthcare professionals oversee the detox and provide support while you cope with withdrawal symptoms.
After detox, the next type of treatment could vary. Some people will start a residential care treatment program. Others will choose a partial hospitalization treatment program. Then there are those who prefer to participate in an intensive outpatient treatment program. There are even people who will move into a sober living treatment facility as part of the treatment program.
