When a loved one has an addiction to drugs or alcohol, it can place stress and strain on the addict’s loved ones. While some addicts come to realize they have a problem on their own and seek help, others require a firm, yet supportive nudge from their family and friends.
Before you plan to stage an intervention, you need to make sure you have taken the time to explore addictions and your options. If you are not careful, you could easily alienate your loved one.
The very first thing you want to learn is more about their addiction. This includes learning how to recognize the signs and symptoms of the addiction, as well as how the addiction has altered your loved one’s brain chemistry and thought processes.
Next, you are ready to start planning the intervention. You may want to consider bringing in an unbiased professional counselor to oversee the intervention and work as a bridge between family and friends and the addict. The reason we suggest this is because there are several “Dos and Don’ts you need to follow.
To learn about these “Dos and Don’ts” other steps for planning and staging an intervention, and the goal of interventions, we invite you to continue reading and reviewing the following infographic.
Afterward, if you have further questions or want help planning and staging an intervention, please feel free to contact RECO Intensive directly.
