Why RECO from Lake Worth Beach

Local options exist. This is the clinical specialist.

RECO sits 14 miles down A1A from Lake Worth Beach — close enough for a daily PHP commute from Bryant Park or Parrot Cove, with the option to use our affiliated sober-living network during the most intensive phase. Our PHP runs 30+ clinical hours weekly with integrated psychiatry, MAT when indicated, and trauma-focused work using EMDR and TF-CBT. The clinical density is comparable to residential; the autonomy is not.

Lake Worth Beach sits 14 miles up the coast from RECO’s Delray campus — a 22-minute drive down A1A most of the year, longer when the snowbirds arrive and Lake Avenue fills up. For clients in Bryant Park, College Park, Mango Groves, or Parrot Cove, that distance is short enough to commute clinically but long enough that a thoughtful conversation about housing is worth having before starting partial hospitalization. Many Lake Worth residents who enter our care choose a hybrid arrangement: PHP during the most intensive phase from one of our affiliated sober-living residences near Delray, then a step down to IOP with a commute back home to the downtown community they want to keep. It is a practical model, and for the right person it works.

What partial hospitalization actually provides

Partial hospitalization is the most intensive level of outpatient care defined under ASAM criteria — Level 2.5 in the standard nomenclature. In practical terms, that means 30 or more clinical hours per week, Monday through Friday, structured around psychiatric care, individual therapy, and evidence-based group programming. The clinical density approaches what you would receive in residential treatment; what differs is the overnight environment. PHP clients return home or to sober-living at the end of each clinical day, which preserves autonomy and allows the work of recovery to begin integrating with real life from the start.

For appropriately selected clients, the outcomes are comparable to inpatient. Research on PHP for substance use disorders consistently shows similar abstinence rates, similar retention figures, and similar functional improvements when the moderating variables — primarily housing stability and motivation — are accounted for. PHP is not a lesser version of residential. It is a different way of delivering the same clinical hours.

Who steps down into PHP

Three pathways bring people into our PHP program, and which one applies matters for how the first weeks are structured.

The most common is a step-down from residential treatment. After three to four weeks of inpatient stabilization — sometimes longer, depending on substance, co-occurring conditions, and clinical response — the residential team and the receiving PHP team coordinate a handoff. The client is medically stable, the acute withdrawal phase is well behind them, and the work has shifted from stabilization to skill-building. PHP is where that shift happens.

The second pathway is a step-up from IOP. Sometimes a client begins at the intensive outpatient level — nine to fifteen hours a week — and the clinical team determines that the density isn’t sufficient. Maybe there has been a return to use. Maybe the trauma work is surfacing material that needs more containment than IOP can provide. Stepping up to PHP for a defined period and then returning to IOP is a normal, evidence-supported response to that picture.

The third pathway is direct admission from the community. Some clients present at intake with a clinical profile that calls for PHP-level density but does not require 24-hour medical supervision. They have stable housing, they have support, they need clinical structure rather than detox. For those clients, beginning at PHP is appropriate and often preferable to a residential admission that disrupts work or family without adding clinical value.

What the evidence base looks like

The clinical literature on PHP for substance use disorders is robust. Studies consistently demonstrate that for appropriately selected patients, PHP produces outcomes — measured by abstinence, treatment retention, and quality of life indicators — that are statistically comparable to residential treatment. The key word is “appropriately selected.” The strongest predictor of comparable outcomes is what happens during the hours the client is not in clinical sessions. When the overnight environment supports recovery — through sober-living, a sober family home, or a partner committed to the process — PHP delivers inpatient-level results.

When the overnight environment is unstable, those numbers degrade. This is why the intake conversation about housing is so consequential. For Lake Worth Beach clients without a stable sober environment at home, we often recommend our sober-living network for the PHP phase, with the option to commute home for IOP once stability is established. Medication-assisted treatment — buprenorphine for opioid use disorder, naltrexone or acamprosate for alcohol use disorder, Vivitrol for either — is integrated into PHP when clinically indicated. Trauma processing using EMDR or Trauma-Focused CBT typically begins during PHP rather than waiting for IOP, because the higher clinical density provides the containment that deep trauma work requires.

What a PHP day looks like at RECO

The schedule is intentional. Morning begins with a check-in group and a primary process or psychoeducation group anchored in CBT or DBT depending on the day. Mid-morning includes individual sessions for clients with appointments scheduled — therapy with primary clinicians, psychiatric medication management, family sessions when indicated. Lunch is taken together on campus; this is intentional clinical time disguised as a meal, because the act of eating a normal lunch with peers in recovery is itself part of the work for many clients.

Afternoons rotate between experiential modalities — art, movement, music — and process groups using Motivational Interviewing principles or trauma-informed approaches. Individual sessions and psychiatry continue throughout the afternoon as scheduled. The day closes with a wrap-up group and a transition plan for the evening: what will be challenging, who will the client call, what is the plan if something destabilizes.

None of this is unique to RECO in the sense that the modalities are standard. What is intentional is the coherence — clinical hours arranged in a daily rhythm rather than scattered across a calendar.

How Lake Worth Beach clients typically structure care

The geography of the Treasure Coast makes a hybrid model easy. From Parrot Cove or downtown Lake Worth, the drive to our Delray campus is reasonable for daily PHP attendance — A1A or Federal Highway, 22 minutes outside of season. Some clients drive it; many do not, particularly in the first weeks when fatigue and emotional load are highest. Our affiliated sober-living residences in Delray provide an alternative that many Lake Worth clients use for the PHP phase, then transition home for IOP and aftercare.

For alcohol use disorder, the additional consideration is the local environment — downtown Lake Worth has a dense bar scene around Lake Avenue and J Street, and clinical planning needs to account for that. Our alcohol-specific program integrates naltrexone or acamprosate when appropriate and works through environmental triggers with concrete planning rather than abstraction. For opioid use disorder, our opioid program includes buprenorphine maintenance and the careful coordination with primary care that long-term MAT requires.

We work with most commercial insurance plans — Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Magellan, and others. Verifying benefits before admission is straightforward and we handle it; the insurance page describes the process or you can call us directly at (866) 396-2008 and have a clinical conversation in the same call.

The decision to enter PHP is significant, and it should be made with full information. If you are in Lake Worth Beach and considering treatment for yourself or someone in your family, the right next step is usually a phone conversation with our clinical intake team — not a form, not a sales pitch, just a conversation about what is happening and whether PHP is the appropriate level of care.

Common questions

From Lake Worth Beach callers, most asked.

How long is the drive from Lake Worth Beach to RECO for daily PHP?
From downtown Lake Worth or Bryant Park, the drive to our Delray Beach campus is 14 miles and runs about 22 minutes outside of season. A1A is the scenic route and Federal Highway (US-1) is usually faster; I-95 is the alternative if traffic is light. During season — roughly January through April — add 10 to 15 minutes. Many Lake Worth Beach clients who commute daily during PHP find it manageable, while others choose to stay in our affiliated sober-living network during the PHP phase and commute home for IOP.
Can I live at home in Parrot Cove or College Park during PHP?
Yes, if your home environment supports recovery. The clinical question we ask at intake is whether the overnight environment will reinforce the work happening in PHP or undermine it. For some Lake Worth Beach clients with stable sober households, commuting from Parrot Cove, College Park, or Mango Groves is the right answer. For others — particularly clients in early alcohol or opioid recovery in households where use has been present — we recommend our sober-living network for the first weeks. This is a clinical conversation, not a policy.
What insurance does RECO accept?
We work with most major commercial insurance plans including Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Magellan, and several regional carriers. We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid for PHP. Our admissions team verifies benefits before admission so you have a clear picture of coverage and any out-of-pocket exposure before committing. You can start that verification by calling (866) 396-2008 or through the insurance page on this site.
How long does PHP typically last?
Most clients spend three to four weeks in PHP, though the range is wider in practice. Length of stay is driven by clinical response, not a predetermined schedule — the question is whether the client has built the skills and stability needed to step down to IOP safely. Some clients move through PHP in two weeks; others spend six. The treatment team reviews progress weekly and makes recommendations based on objective clinical indicators rather than a fixed timeline.
Is family involved in PHP treatment?
Yes, family involvement is part of the clinical model when the client consents and when family relationships are part of the recovery picture. We offer family sessions with the primary clinician, family education groups, and structured communication around treatment progress. For Lake Worth Beach families, the drive is short enough that in-person family sessions are practical; we also offer telehealth family sessions for relatives outside South Florida. The goal is functional family communication, not blame or confrontation.
What does a typical PHP day actually look like?
PHP runs Monday through Friday from approximately 9 AM to 3 PM, totaling 30 or more clinical hours per week. Mornings start with a check-in group followed by a process or psychoeducation group rooted in CBT or DBT. Lunch is taken together on campus. Afternoons include experiential work, additional process groups, individual therapy sessions, and psychiatry appointments as scheduled. The day ends with a wrap-up group focused on planning the evening hours, which for many clients are the harder part of early recovery.
