The most common medication problem in early recovery isn't under-prescribing — it's prescribers working in silos, each writing for a piece of the picture without the full case in mind. RECO Intensive's medication-management service is one psychiatric provider, one coordinated regimen, and continuous coordination with every other clinician on the team.
What medication management looks like at RECO Intensive
You meet our board-certified psychiatric provider within the first week. They review your full medication list, prior psychiatric history, current symptoms, addiction history, and any medications you may need to taper or rotate. The treatment-plan medication strategy is written, shared with the clinical team, and reviewed weekly.
Where appropriate, MAT (medication-assisted treatment) for opioid or alcohol use disorder is integrated — Vivitrol, naltrexone, buprenorphine, acamprosate — with the addiction-specific evidence base behind every choice. SSRIs, mood stabilizers, ADHD medications, and sleep aids are reviewed in light of substance-use history and dialed in carefully.
What's included
- Psychiatric evaluation with board-certified provider in first week

- Treatment-plan-integrated medication strategy
- MAT options (naltrexone, Vivitrol, buprenorphine, acamprosate) when indicated
- Coordination with primary care provider and any outside specialists
- Weekly medication review in team meeting
- Discharge medication handoff to outpatient psychiatry
Who benefits most
Clients with co-occurring depression, anxiety, bipolar, ADHD, or PTSD where untreated symptoms drive substance use. Clients on multiple prescribers' radars where coordination has been chaotic. Anyone considering or maintaining MAT. Clients tapering off benzodiazepines, opioids, or stimulants — where the medical strategy is part of recovery itself.
How medication management integrates with the rest of your plan
Medication decisions are clinical-team decisions, not solo psychiatric decisions. Your therapist contributes observations. Your case manager contributes adherence and side-effect data. The medical team coordinates with any outside prescribers. Every change is reviewed in the weekly team meeting before being made.
Why the RECO approach is different
Many treatment programs outsource psychiatric care to whoever is available locally. We have a board-certified psychiatric provider as part of the clinical team — and the coordination between psychiatry, therapy, medical, and case management is one of the clearest quality differences clients describe.
