For Deerfield Beach clients, RECO offers a clinically integrated PHP-to-IOP-to-aftercare continuum just 22 minutes up the A1A corridor — close enough to keep family, work, and home life intact, far enough for real separation from the people and places tied to active use. The same primary therapist follows you across levels of care, and sober-living housing in Delray is coordinated directly with the clinical team rather than referred out.
Deerfield Beach sits roughly 13 miles south of RECO Intensive’s Delray Beach campus — about a 22-minute drive up the A1A corridor. For many people living near The Cove, Pioneer Park, or the quieter blocks east of Federal Highway, that distance turns out to matter clinically. It is far enough to put real space between you and the bars, dealers, or familiar living rooms tied to active use, but close enough that you can still see your kids after group, keep a job in Cresthaven, or have lunch with a parent in Hillsboro Beach on the weekend. Outpatient addiction treatment only works when the logistics work, and the geography between Deerfield Beach and Delray is one of the reasons our Deerfield clients tend to stay engaged through the full course of care.
This page is meant to explain — without sales language — what outpatient addiction treatment at RECO actually is, who it’s clinically appropriate for, and how families in Deerfield Beach typically use it.
What outpatient addiction treatment actually means
“Outpatient” is a broad term that covers a wide range of clinical intensity. On the lighter end, standard outpatient might mean one or two therapy sessions a week. On the heavier end, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) runs 30 or more structured clinical hours per week — essentially a full working day of treatment, five days a week, while the client sleeps somewhere other than a hospital. In between sits the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), typically around 15 hours weekly across three or four days.
For someone with a moderate-to-severe substance use disorder — especially with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or stimulants — standard outpatient is almost never enough on its own as a starting point. The clinical density required to interrupt a real addiction pattern, build new coping skills, and stabilize co-occurring depression, anxiety, or trauma is closer to what PHP and IOP are designed to deliver. RECO’s outpatient continuum is built so that a client can step from PHP down to IOP, and eventually to a lighter aftercare cadence, without changing primary therapists or starting over with a new clinical team.
Who outpatient is the right fit for
Placement decisions at RECO follow the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria, which assess six dimensions: acute intoxication and withdrawal risk, biomedical conditions, emotional and behavioral conditions, readiness to change, relapse potential, and the recovery environment. Outpatient — at the PHP or IOP level — is clinically appropriate when:
- Withdrawal risk is either low or already managed (for opioids and alcohol, that often means a brief medical detox first or a careful induction onto buprenorphine, naltrexone, or acamprosate).
- There is no active medical issue requiring 24-hour nursing.
- Psychiatric symptoms are present but not actively dangerous, and can be co-treated by our psychiatry team.
- The client has a home or sober-living setting that supports — rather than undermines — recovery.
That last point is where many Deerfield Beach clients run into a wall. If the apartment in Cresthaven is also where the using happened, or if a partner is still drinking heavily, outpatient from that address is a setup for relapse. We talk through this honestly during the assessment — and when home isn’t yet a viable recovery environment, residential care or structured sober living in Delray Beach becomes the more honest recommendation.
What a PHP day looks like
PHP at RECO runs Monday through Friday, roughly 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Most Deerfield clients leave home around 8:30, take I-95 or Federal Highway up to Delray, and are back south of Hillsboro Boulevard by mid-afternoon. A typical day is built around a coherent clinical arc rather than a scattered list of appointments:
- A morning process group, often using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Motivational Interviewing (MI) frameworks.
- A psychoeducation block — relapse prevention, the neuroscience of addiction, family-system dynamics, or specific work on alcohol, opioid, or stimulant use disorders.
- Individual sessions with the primary therapist on a regular weekly cadence, plus psychiatry as clinically indicated for medication management (including Vivitrol injections, buprenorphine maintenance, or non-stimulant treatment of co-occurring ADHD).
- A specialty group later in the day — Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, trauma-focused work including EMDR or Trauma-Focused CBT for clients with PTSD, or experiential modalities like art therapy and equine-assisted work.
IOP follows the same clinical architecture but compressed — typically three groups a week plus an individual session, scheduled morning or evening so clients in Pioneer Park or Goldcoast Centre can hold a job or return to school while still in active treatment.
Sober living as part of the treatment plan
RECO operates its own network of sober-living residences in Delray Beach, and for a meaningful share of our Deerfield Beach clients, that housing is the piece that makes PHP-level care actually viable. The homes are coordinated directly with the clinical team — your therapist, the house manager, and the psychiatry team are all on the same page about your treatment plan, your medications, and your weekly goals.
This isn’t a separate vendor relationship or a referral to an unaffiliated landlord. The clinical and residential pieces are run by the same organization, which means that if a client is struggling in the home, the treatment team knows about it before the next individual session, not weeks later. For families in Deerfield Beach who have watched a loved one cycle through unstructured housing arrangements, this integration is often the difference between a treatment episode that holds and one that doesn’t.
Insurance, getting started, and what comes after
RECO is in-network or works on a single-case basis with most major commercial carriers — Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, and others. Our admissions team verifies benefits the same day in almost all cases; you can start that process on the insurance verification page or by calling (866) 396-2008. We will tell you in plain language what is covered, what your out-of-pocket exposure looks like, and whether PHP, IOP, or a higher level of care is the appropriate starting point.
What happens after the active outpatient episode matters as much as what happens during it. Our aftercare and alumni program keeps Deerfield Beach clients connected to weekly groups, alumni events, and ongoing access to their primary therapist for as long as they need it — because recovery from a substance like alcohol or an opioid like heroin isn’t a 30-day project, and we don’t pretend otherwise on our alcohol or opioid treatment pages either.
