After three months of treatment in a rehabilitation center following a recent relapse, Demi Lovato is on the road to recovery and has celebrated 90 days in sobriety. The singer and actress suffered from an overdose in July of this year, and subsequently attended treatment to address her relapse. Lovato had previously been sober for six years, and had taken to her music to reveal she was no longer sober in a ballad that was released shortly before her July overdose.“I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore,” sang Lovato, now 26 years old.Growing up in the spotlight, Lovato got her start in Hollywood as an actress on Barney & Friends, alongside fellow future-entertainer Selena Gomez. As she rose to fame, Lovato struggled behind the scenes with an eating disorder and self-mutilation, before finally attending rehab in 2010.In a post that has since been deleted, Lovato took to Instagram to talk about her overdose, writing, “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve Learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something that I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”Lovato was positive and grateful toward her family, friends, and fans in that message. Her determination to succeed in her sobriety was apparent. The message remained her most current update until it was recently deleted. Her treatment now completed, Lovato emerged on social media to showcase a photo of herself at the polls, encouraging others to use their voice and vote in 2018 primary elections. While she was in treatment, both Lovato’s mother and sister spoke out about her progress and her courage.“I just feel like the reason she is alive today is because of the millions and millions of prayers that went up that day when everybody found out what was happening,” said Lovato’s mother, Dianna de la Garza.Sister Madison de la Garza told the podcast Millennial Hollywood that, “Demi’s doing really well. She’s working really hard on her sobriety and we’re all so incredibly proud of her.”This positive news for Lovato’s health comes after a harrowing 10 days spent in the hospital following her overdose. Her large community of fans continues to rally around the actress, with dozens of supportive comments left on her latest post, which addresses the fact that she is “happy to be home.”
