Aftercare is where recovery actually gets tested. The first 90 days post-discharge are the highest-risk relapse window in addiction medicine, and the structure (or absence) of aftercare planning is one of the strongest predictors of long-term success. RECO Intensive's aftercare program in Delray Beach is structured for the realities of the first year out, not just the first month.
What aftercare at RECO looks like
Aftercare planning starts in residential, intensifies during IOP, and becomes the daily focus by discharge. The "aftercare program" is not a separate service post-discharge — it's a continuous structure that begins inside treatment and extends through the first year of sustained recovery.
What's in the aftercare plan
- Discharge transition support — housing decision, work re-entry, family logistics
- Continued therapy — coordinated handoff to outpatient providers, often in the client's home city
- Psychiatric continuity — medication management handoff, especially for MAT clients
- Weekly alumni groups — in-person in Delray Beach + Zoom for out-of-state alumni
- Monthly alumni events — sober social, structured peer connection, recovery community
- Quarterly regional gatherings in Atlanta, NYC, Chicago, DC, LA
- 24/7 alumni crisis line — peer-staffed, immediate support
- Mentor pairing with an established alumni 1-3 years into recovery
- Annual alumni reunion weekend
Who aftercare serves
Every RECO graduate. The intensity of engagement varies with each client's ongoing needs — some clients attend weekly alumni groups for years, others touch in for events and the crisis line. The infrastructure is there for whoever needs it.
What aftercare looks like long-term
The first 90 days are the highest-risk window — aftercare engagement is structured most tightly during this phase. Months 4-12 see less daily intensity but continued community engagement. Year 2+ for many alumni means a sustained relationship with the RECO recovery community — events, mentorship, occasional crisis-line use, regional gatherings.
Why long-term aftercare matters
Addiction is a chronic condition; recovery is a chronic process. The alumni community is where ongoing recovery happens — and the depth of community engagement at year 1, year 3, year 5 is one of the clearest predictors of sustained recovery in the literature.
Why RECO's aftercare is different
Many programs claim an "alumni program" that turns out to be a quarterly email newsletter and a closed Facebook group. Ours is a living in-person community with weekly groups in Delray Beach, monthly events, regional gatherings, a structured crisis line, and mentor pairings. The depth of the alumni community is one of the strongest reasons clients describe RECO recovery as different — they don't graduate out of the community; they graduate into it.
