Co-Occurring Disorders

Treating addiction & mental health in the same program.

Substance use rarely arrives alone. At RECO Intensive, we specialize in integrated dual-diagnosis care — addressing both conditions in the same program, with one clinical team, so neither one is left untreated.

What is a co-occurring disorder?

When two conditions move together, they need to be treated together.

A co-occurring (or "dual diagnosis") disorder is the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition in the same person. According to SAMHSA, roughly 1 in 4 adults with a serious mental illness also has a substance use disorder.

Historically, mental health and addiction were treated in separate programs, often months apart. The result was avoidable relapse. The clinical standard today — and the practice at RECO Intensive — is integrated treatment: both conditions, the same team, simultaneous care.
