Individual Addiction Treatment Therapy

Individualized Therapy

Safe, Secure Environment

Upon entering our drug addiction treatment program, each client will be assigned a Primary Therapist, whom they will meet with for a minimum of one session per week.

Our highly experienced staff of Primary Therapists will work with you in a one-on-one, experiential environment, and will guide you throughout your progression in the addiction treatment program. Through utilizing different therapeutic techniques, your therapist will get to know your history and help you in creating a brighter pathway for the future.

Together, you and your Primary Therapist will design a therapeutic plan for your recovery, including individual and group sessions. In your individual sessions, you will examine both your past history with addiction and your current progress within the program. Our qualified staff will offer support and encouragement while also providing you with tools that you can use in your future post-RECO.

As your ally and confidante in recovery, your Primary Therapist will offer a safe, secure environment in which you can voice your thoughts, feelings, and fears. They will get to know the person you were, while advocating for the person you will be. In addition to mandatory weekly sessions required in our treatment programs, we also institute an open door policy for all clients, and can schedule extra individual sessions based upon situational need.

Types Of Individual Therapeutic Interventions For Substance Abuse

Along with individual therapy with your primary therapist, you may also be exposed to any or all of the types of therapy described below at Reco Intensive or similar addiction treatment centers.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy is something of a gold standard in substance abuse treatment programs, and first appeared on the scene with rational emotive behavior therapy in the 1950s. These behavioral therapies are action-oriented, helping patients to develop healthy coping skills and to break habitual negative thought patterns that may have fueled drug and alcohol addiction and related mental health problems. According to the National Institute On Drug Abuse, this is still one of the best options when it comes to treating substance abuse and to long term relapse prevention.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical behavior therapy is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that was originally designed for patients struggling with borderline personality disorder but that has been adapted to those with a variety of other mental health issues, including substance use disorder.

Dialectical behavior therapy is set apart from other treatment modalities and forms of talk therapy by its emphasis on life skills, mindfulness, communication skills, and distress tolerance. As well as as an individual therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy can sometimes be offered in group therapy form.

Eye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a relatively new addiction therapy that is primarily used for those who suffer from mental health issues like post traumatic stress disorder as well as drug or alcohol addiction. This form of drug addiction treatment physically resets the brain, helping to reduce the power of traumatic memories and allowing a more robust addiction recovery.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a type of talk therapy that helps patients with substance use disorder to develop their own motivation to recover. In motivational interviewing, the patient and treatment provider chat about the patient’s treatment plans, with treatment providers helping the patient to resolve their ambivalence about their addiction recovery and to develop goals for their recovery process.

Group Therapy For Drug Abuse: Types Of Therapy

Though American addiction centers can vary widely in the types of therapy they offer depending on the specific treatment provider, here are some common addiction treatment options that may be presented to you as group therapy in substance abuse treatment programs.

Family Therapy

Family therapy sessions allow those who suffer from substance use disorders to bring their family members into their addiction therapy process. Family therapy serves the dual purpose of giving family members the space to process their own feelings about their loved one’s substance addiction and to prepare them to play an active role in their loved one’s recovery process.

Family therapy can also help patients and family members to identify toxic family dynamics that may have played a part in a loved one’s substance abuse. Family counseling can help families of those with substance use disorders to replace these unhealthy dynamics with those that can foster better mental health.

Alternative Therapies

Along with the established behavioral therapies described above, many American addiction centers and treatment centers offer clients with substance use disorders a variety of alternative therapies. These can include massage therapy, music therapy, equine therapy, art therapy, biofeedback therapy, adventure therapy, and more. While some of these treatment modalities may be frowned upon as opposed to conventional addiction therapy, studies by the National Institute On Drug Abuse and other pioneering institutions increasingly support the use of massage therapy and similar holistic addiction therapy as part of the treatment process.
